Windows Mobile devices support FDRM-protected content for ring tones, home screens, and other applications and plug-ins. For more information about Windows Mobile applications that are FDRM-enabled, see FDRM Enabled Windows Mobile Applications.

You can store protected content on the device in the same location, and with the same filename, as you would store unprotected content. Protected content is stored in such a way that content sharing across multiple devices is impossible unless the other devices acquire rights for that content. It is possible to move or copy content to other locations on the same device, to store content on removable storage cards, and to back up content using tools such as Microsoft® ActiveSync®. Applications use the Win32® File APIs to handle files, however files that are opened by using the CreateFilefunction instead of by using the FileDRMCreateFilefunction return invalid content when they are read. The FDRM engine provider can also block writes to files that contain FDRM-protected content.
